Learning Is Awakening｜How Xu Shen's Gloss and Zhu Xi's Imitation Split Confucianism in Two
The Shuowen Jiezi explains the original character for learning, 斅, as "awakening." To learn was to awaken. Zhu Xi, however, in his Collected Commentaries on the Analects assigned 效 to learning and read it as imitating the conduct of those who awakened first. The difference of a single gloss became the core of the great Confucian dispute.

The Year 660 BC for Emperor Jimmu's Accession Was an Ideal Designed by the Suiko Court through Dunjia
Nowhere in the Nihon Shoki is the year 660 BC written. Subtract 1260 from 601, and 660 BC results. Tadao Iijima concluded that the Suiko court, using the art of Dunjia, reflected its own new government back onto high antiquity, and that the date is not historical fact.

The Art Theatre Shinjuku Bunka and Kinshiro Kuzui｜The Underground Sasoriza and Shinjuku in the Sixties
The Art Theatre Shinjuku Bunka opened in 1962 beside Isetan in Shinjuku 3-chome. In 1967 its general manager, Kinshiro Kuzui, opened the Underground Sasoriza in the cinema's basement. It was named by Yukio Mishima. It stood at the very center of 1960s Shinjuku, where energy with nowhere to go burst out.
